California Trip Report!

Just a warning that this post is very long, but it’s filled with lots of fun!

Saturday:

We flew to into LAX airport a little later than we were expecting on Saturday afternoon. Once we grabbed our bags and got the keys to our rental car, we were on our way to Disneyland Resort! We checked in to Disney’s Paradise Pier, unpacked our bags and then drove to Lake Elsinore for dinner with my west coast family. We headed back fairly early since it’d be quite a long day of travel plus the time difference and the upcoming Daylight savings time change.

Sunday:

We Disney bounded today as Mickey and Minnie Mouse as you can see below and headed to Disneyland Park. We had breakfast at The Plaza Inn which was FANTASTIC! There were so many characters, we couldn’t believe it. I’ll have a whole post on our thoughts of the dining places we checked out while visiting coming soon. After breakfast, we met Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto in their Diamond Celebration gear.

After meeting most of the gang, we went on the Welcome to Disneyland tour which I highly suggest if you visit Disneyland for the first time. After the tour, we grabbed our first churro of the trip and saw the Mickey and the Magical Map show. This show was absolutely PHEONOMENAL and I’d highly recommend it. We ended up seeing it again later in the week because we liked it so much.

We than headed over to Nemo’s Submarine Voyage which was not a good choice for my claustrophobic self, but it was cute. We then rode Star Tours with a fastpass and grabbed a late lunch at Aladdin’s Oasis as part of the Paint the Nite to go package. It was then time for our Indiana Jones fastpass followed by our Buzz Light Year Astro Blasters fastpass. We decided to check our Super Hero HQ and were able to meet Spiderman and Thor.

After that we headed to Fantasyland to do the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk through, Snow White’s Scary Adventures and Pinocchio’s Daring Journey. We hopped on the monorail to Downtown Disney, grabbed a sweet treat at Marcelina’s Confectionary and headed back to our room for a break before heading back to Disneyland to see the Paint the Nite Parade.

Once the parade was over, we hurried over to California Adventure to see World of Color with a fastpass. Since it had been quite a long and exhausting day, we decided to head back to our resort to get some much needed rest.

Monday:

On Monday we took a break from Disney and traveled a bit south to San Diego where we visited the zoo and Sea World. While at Sea World we had the chance to get up close and personal with penguins in their exhibit. It was awesome!

Once we finished up in Sea World, we headed to La Jolla Cove to hang out with the seals. On our way back to our resort we made a stop at Target to stock up on some snacks and had dinner at In-N-Out, which was delicious!

Tuesday:

Today we did one of our favorite Disney bounds which is Olaf and Sven. We were headed back into the parks today, but first we had breakfast at Storytellers Café located in the Grand Californian. Once we finished breakfast, we headed into California Adventure and rode California Screamin’, Toy Story, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zepper, and Silly Symphony Swings with very little wait. Then we headed over to Animation Academy and took two classes. The first class we learned how to draw Donald and the second one we drew Goofy. Staying in the Animation building, we went to the lower level to visit the Beast’s library and took a Disney Personality quiz. We then rode Monster’s Inc. and then were able to ride Radiator Springs Racers with a fastpass. Radiator Springs Racers was definitely one of our favorite rides of the trip. We then had the chance to meet Anna, Elsa and Olaf. I must say he does give the warmest hugs!

We grabbed a bite for lunch and rode Tower of Terror and Soarin’ with fastpasses. Then we bought our second round of churros for the trip and found a spot for the Pixar Play Parade which was super cute. Once the parade ended, we headed back to our resort for a break before heading to Downtown Disney for a quick bite to eat and another churro! We saw the last few floats of Paint the Nite parade and then stepped into Main Street to watch Disneyland Forever. We took advantage of the short lines after the fireworks and rode the Matterhorn, Mad Tea party and It’s a Small World. We caught the whole second Paint the Nite Parade and then called it a night.

Wednesday:

We traveled to Hollywood today. First we did a Movies Tour along Hollywood Boulevard, visited the wax figures at Madame Tussaud’s and then had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. We got to see the stars as well as the hand and foot prints in front of the Chinese Theatre. Then we drove to the Griffith Observatory where we got a great view of the Hollywood sign. Decided to fill our sweet tooth with delicious cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes and macaroons from Lette. We were then on our way back to Hollywood Boulevard to attend Paleyfest: The Big Bang Theory at the Dolby theatre. At Paleyfest, they showed us the new upcoming episode and it was a lot of questions and answers with the crowd. Being so close to my favorite tv show stars was an absolute incredible experience and being able to be in the Dolby theatre where the Oscars are held is awesome.

Thursday:

We rode the monorail into Disneyland for extra morning magic hours and were able to hope on Hyperspace Mountain, Astro Orbiter, Alice in Wonderland and Storybook Canal Boats all with very little wait. We then rode Hyperspace Mountain again with a fastpass before heading over to California Adventure where we rode California Screamin’, grabbed a fastpass for Radiator Springs Racers and bought our fourth set of churros before heading back to Disneyland. We stopped by Star Wars Launch Bay to meet Chewie, rode Winnie the Pooh and Haunted Mansion before grabbing a quick bite to eat, doing a little shopping and heading back to our resort for a much needed nap. Once we were rested up we were back to California adventure to use our Radiator Springs Racers fastpass and then bought some ice cream. Then we rode California Screamin’, Silly Symphony Swings and Tower of Terror with a fastpass, before stopping by Animation Academy where we drew Pooh! We grabbed a quick bite to eat, rode California Screamin’ again and then attended the first World of Color Dessert Party. Being a picky eater, there weren’t many desserts I enjoyed, but the view was great! After a very long, fun filled day, we headed back to our resort for the night.

Friday:

Friday was quite possibly our favorite day as we attended Nurtured by Nature. They are located in the rural hills of Valley Center, CA where you will go behind the scenes for a unique animal encounter with some of the planet’s most fascinating exotic creatures. (Check out their website here.) It was an absolutely fantastic experience and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Their slogan is “Dig with the armadillos, hop with the kangaroo, hang out with the sloth, cuddle with the porcupine and swim with the otters.” We sure did love all of those things, but swimming with the otters was probably the best part of our entire day. Otters sure are playful little things! I’ve added pictures below so you can see some of the animals we were able to spend our day with!

Once we finished up, we headed back to our resort to clean up and head to dinner at Goofy’s Kitchen in the Disneyland hotel. This meal was probably one of my favorites due to the food selection. Macaroni and cheese pizza??? Yes, please! After we finished stuffing our faces eating, we headed into Downtown Disney for a while to do some shopping and then called it a night.

Saturday:

We started our day off in California Adventure by riding Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Radiator Springs Racers again with a fastpass. Then we grabbed our fifth set of churros before riding Toy Story Mania. After I kicked butt in Toy Story Mania, we had the chance to meet Daisy, Minnie, Goofy, Mickey, and Donald in their Hollywood attire as well as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit!

We headed over to Animation Academy again, but this time we were able to draw Oswald and Steamboat Mickey. It was then time for our reservation at Ariel’s Grotto where we had lunch with Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Tiana, and Jasmine. Once we finished lunch we headed to our resort for a little to grab sweatshirts for later on before heading to Disneyland to see Mickey and the Magical Map again. We then attempted to see Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, but we couldn’t find a spot anywhere on the parade route so we ditched that idea headed to the Royal theatre to see the Tangled show which was absolutely adorable. We had dinner at Café Orleans before finding a spot for our last viewing of the Paint the Nite Parade. While we were waiting for the parade to start, we had the best dessert EVER. Churro Funnel Cake. Oh my goodness. It was unbelievable and I’d eat it every day if it wasn’t so bad for you! After enjoying Paint the Nite one last time, we found a spot right in front of the castle for Disneyland Forever before calling it a night.

Sunday:

Our last day in California! We packed up all of our stuff and had breakfast in our hotel at the PCH Grill with Mickey and friends. We hopped on the monorail one last time into Disneyland where we saw the Beauty and the Beast show, met Sorcerer Mickey, Jasmine and Genie and Tinkerbell. We took a snack break to eat some yummy beignets before heading over to meet Dr. Facilier from Princess and the Frog. We made sure to find a spot very early for Mickey’s Soundsational Parade this time (the folks in Disneyland are very serious about their parades!) After the parade, we did some shopping then rode Hyperspace Mountain and Indiana Jones with fastpasses before heading over to California Adventure. We then rode California screamin’ twice, once with a fastpass and once without before grabbing a milkshake, doing some shopping and headed off to LAX for our late flight home.

We had an absolutely amazing time in California and can’t wait until we are able to get back.

Thanks for following along and have a magical day!

This Walt Disney World girl is headed to the West Coast! This has been a trip in the making for over a year now and we are so excited it is finally here! On Saturday (tomorrow) my best friend and I are headed to the Disneyland Resort in California via LAX. We will be renting a car and staying at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel for 8 nights. We have a 5-day park hopper and a reservation at all of the Character meals offered. Yes, you can call us crazy if you want. :P I know, 5 days at Disneyland sounds like a lot, but we have tons of things planned and don’t know the next time we will be able to visit, so we are making the absolute most of our trip! We also are going on the Welcome to Disneyland Tour, attending the first World of Color Dessert Party and booked the Paint the Nite On-the-go Package at Aladdin’s Oasis.

Besides all the Disney fun we will be having, we have lots of other stuff in store for our week including:

o  Visiting my West Coast Family
o   San Diego Zoo
o   Sea World- meeting penguins (my FAVORITE!)
o   La Jolla
o   Nurtured by Nature- swimming with otters!
o   Hollywood

Walt Disney World 2016 Princess Run

This year the Princess run was made up of many different events: Run Expo, 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and the Glass Slipper Challenge.

Run Expo:

The runDisney Health & Fitness expo is held at the Wide World of Sports Thursday to Saturday of Princess run weekend. It is basically headquarters for every single little thing you would need to prepare for race weekend. Any person who is running MUST attend the Expo to pick up your race number, gEAR bag, and shirt. Besides those items there is official merchandise, the latest fitness apparel, and tons of nutritional products available for purchase. My favorite thing was that they had TONS of sparkly headbands. Of course I bought one to match my run outfit. :P

Disney Princess 5K presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals:

This run was scheduled for Friday morning. The 5K course was through EPCOT with many characters on course cheering you on! The course started in the parking lot, we entered EPCOT through the World Showcase, and made a trip through Future World before heading out of the park and to the finish line. This is more of a laid back run as it is not timed and many people stop to take pictures as they run through EPCOT. I definitely stopped to take a few as well:

This was the only race I participated in this time, but it was definitely an opportunity of a lifetime.

Disney Princess Enchanted 10K presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals:

This run was scheduled for Saturday morning. This 10K course was through EPCOT Resorts area. Unlike the 5K, this race is a timed event. For more information on this race, checkout: http://www.rundisney.com/princess-half-marathon/

Disney Princess Half Marathon presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals:

This run was scheduled for Sunday morning. This 13.1 mile course takes you through both Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT. This race is also a timed event. If you plan on not participating in this run, make sure you allow A LOT of extra travel time to get where you have to go. We had breakfast plans for 8:40am at 1900 Park Fare and didn’t get there until 9:15am due to the traffic caused by the half marathon. Luckily they were understanding, but we definitely should have left much earlier.

Disney Glass Slipper presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals:

A 19.3 mile adventure held over two days. This challenge is completed by finishing BOTH the Half Marathon and the Enchanted 10K within the pacing requirements. You’ll receive an additional Glass Slipper Medal in addition to the medals you receive from the two separate races. I would definitely love to go for this one day, better start training!
Besides the expo and all of the running events there are many other aspects to Princess Run Weekend. Those other events include: Ever After Party at Disney Springs, Pasta in the Park Party, Half Marathon Weekend Breakfast, and the Race Retreat. For more information on these events visit http://www.rundisney.com/princess-half-marathon/.

The Princess Run isn’t the only run you can be a part of! Here is a whole list of runDisney events in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland and where you can find more information!

Thanks for following along and have a magical day!

February Trip Report!

Hello there! We got back super early Monday morning from our quick trip. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and I’d highly recommend taking a trip at the end of February because of it.

Our trip started off a bit shaky as on the plane ride down we had to make an emergency landing in North Carolina due to a woman on our flight’s medical problem. We ended up landing about an hour and a half later than expected. Luckily our room was ready at All Star Movies by the time we got there so we dropped off our stuff, freshened up and grabbed a quick lunch at our resort. Once we finished lunch, we were off to Hollywood Studios. We had a FP+ for Tower of Terror and then decided to check out Star Wars Launch Bay. In there we met Chewbacca who was very sweet and Kylo Ren who was very intense. We then headed to Toy Story Mania for our FP+ time and then met Mike & Sully before they are moved due to the upcoming construction. By this point it was time for our final FP+ of the day at Star Tours. Star Tours has been updated to include bits of The Force Awakens in it. We then had dinner reservations at Minnie’s Seasonal Dine at Hollywood & Vine which this time was Hollywood themed and I enjoyed this one over the Christmas Dine in November. After a long day, we were off to All Star Movies early to get some sleep before getting up extra early for the Princess Run on Friday morning.

Friday morning I was up by 3am to get dressed and head to Epcot for the Princess 5k! While waiting for the run to start, they had Ariel, Prince Eric and Sebastian available to meet. The lines were crazy long, but I was able to see Sebastian. At 6am the run started and I finished around 7am as I was in the second corral of runners. I’ll have a whole post on my thoughts about the run next week. Once the run was over, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and take a quick nap and were off to Animal Kingdom. First we did Kilamanjaro Safaris with our FP+ reservation and then hopped on the Wildlife Express train to go meet Rafiki at his Planet Watch. Once we got back from the train, we had a delicious lunch at Pizza Fari then used our FP+ for Expedition Everest. We had some time to kill so we decided to meet Dug & Russel from Up! Before going to our final FP+ of the day for The Lion King show. Unfortunately, the Harmabe theatre had a few issues, so we were unable to see the show and used the final FP+ for another ride on Expedition Everest. This wrapped up our time in Animal kingdom and we grabbed a bus for Epcot. On the way to Epcot my sister received the best news! She was accepted into the Disney College Program! I’m so excited for her and I’ll have to have her do a guest post at some point to talk about it! Once we got to Epcot we rode Spaceship Earth, had a visit with Baymax and then decided to explore the World Showcase. We were able to see Jasmine and Aladdin in Morroco and had dinner in Italy at Tutto Italia. Before heading out for the night we rode Test Track. It broke down for a few minutes just before we were about to go out on the fast track, but was back up and running in a few minutes.

On Saturday we started off our day with breakfast at Cape May Café breakfast at the Beach Club and then took the ferry over to Hollywood Studios. We rode Rock n Roller coaster, Tower of Terror and the Great Movie ride before heading to meet Sorcerer Mickey. We then hopped in line for Toy Story Mania before heading to the Magic Kingdom. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom just in time to grab a good spot for the Festival of Fantasy Parade. This is definitely one of my favorite things to see! We were able to go meet Gaston and see Mickey’s Philharmagic before using our FP+ on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Earlier in the day I was able to secure a dinner reservation for the Magic Kingdom’s newest restaurant Jungle Cruise Skipper Canteen. It was delicious and there were plenty of jokes to go around! Once we finished dinner, we used a FP+ for Peter Pan’s Flight and then headed over to meet Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. Before our final FP+ of the night, we did the Monster’s Inc. Laugh floor and grabbed some ice cream. Our final FP+ was for Wishes so we had a great spot for both Celebrate the Magic and the fireworks. I would definitely recommend this FP+ as it was much better to have a blocked off section where we weren’t cramped in the middle of Main Street.

For our last day we went to 1900 Park Fare for breakfast before heading to the Magic Kingdom. My sister and I decided to Disneybound as Drizella and Anastasia Tremaine again while my best friend went as Cinderella. We were able to see the Stepsisters outside of the castle and Cinderella (and Rapunzel) inside Princess Fairytale Hall. Once we had fun photo-ops, we rode Seven Dwarfs Mine Train again and Jungle Cruise with FP+. We took the wildest ride in the Wilderness on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and then hopped onto the railroad for a scenic view of the Magic Kingdom. It was time for our Space Mountain FP+, so we did that and then did my favorite attraction….The Carousel of Progress! We decided to take a ride on the Peoplemove before grabbing a quick lunch at Columbia Harbor House. We finished out our day with some shopping on Main Street and a stop at the Confectionary before heading back to our resort to catch the Tragical, I mean Magical Express. :P

Overall the weather was gorgeous, we had lots of fun and even though there were a few bumps in the road, we had a fantastic trip!

Thanks for following along and have a magical day!

Solo Research Trip Report!

I traveled down to Disney last Friday early in the morning. I stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort in the Jamaica section. I loved this resort! The theme and room were gorgeous and it only takes about 5-10 minutes to get to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot via Disney buses! Here is a breakdown of my trip:

Friday:

Arrived in my room by 9:45am and was off to Hollywood Studios by 10:15! I was able to walk right up to see Phineas and Ferb, then only had about a 5 minute wait to see Mike and Sully from Monster’s Inc. I then enjoyed lunch at my favorite quick service, Pizza Planet and was off to do my first 2 FP+ reservations of the day, Tower of Terror and Rock n’ Roller Coaster. I still had a little time before my 3rd FP+ so I went and watched the Muppet vision 3D show. Silly little show, but has great air conditioning and lots of laughs. I finished my time at Hollywood Studios with my Star Tours FP+ and headed back to my room to get ready for Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween Party! I’ll have a whole other post on my experience at the Party next week!

Saturday:

Original plan was to get up early and head to Animal Kingdom for rope drop, but exhaustion got the best of me. I slept until about 9AM and attempted to head out to Epcot. When you stay at Caribbean Beach, Jamaica is the first pick up point for the parks which is lucky for me. I got on the bus, we got to the second stop in CB and realized I didn’t have my MagicBand. Seeing that I go to Disney World quite a bit, you think I would double check that I have my MagicBand on. I stopped by the check in house to see if they could give me a key to my room so I could go back and get my band, but the woman surprised me and said I can do one better. She was able to give me a gray MagicBand, link all of my stuff to it and I was able to just go on my way! I had no idea that they could do this, but I’m very happy they can! After my little mishap, I was off to Epcot once more. I had a quick service lunch at the Electric Umbrella in Future World and headed to The Seas for my first FP+ for The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Then, I headed over to the Land for my Soarin’ FP+ and hopped on Living with the Land. Once I finished up there, it was time for my final FP+ of the day at Mission Space. I decided to take a walk around the world and see what the Food & Wine Festival was all about. I must say, I was not impressed, but am giving it another shot when I go back in November. I’ll make sure to have a post all about it once I get back from that trip.

After I made my way around the world, I headed over to Magic Kingdom for the night. I ate dinner at one of my other favorite quick services, Cosmic Rays in Tomorrowland. I was then able to hop on Carousel of Progress, Peoplemover, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid and It’s a Small World without almost no lines. I decided to grab some ice cream and watch the Electrical Parade, Celebrate the Magic, and Wishes before calling it a night.

Sunday:

I headed back to the Magic Kingdom for my final day. I spent the first hour and a half meeting a bunch of characters with little wait which I’ll have a whole other post about how to do the same next week. I once again rode Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid (the Under the Sea song is my favorite part) then hopped in line to meet Gaston. Gaston was terrific (and I’m sure he would agree), by far one of the best character meets I’ve experienced. Then used my FP+ to ride 7 Dwarfs Mine Train and then saw Mickey’s Philharmiagic. Used my second FP+ of the day to ride Peter Pan’s Flight and had lunch at Pinocchio's. I then decided I was going to try to meet Jessie and Woody in Frontierland. I walked up and thought that the line actually wasn’t that bad. Boy, was I wrong! It took just under an hour to finally meet them. It was the slowest moving line I have ever been in. They were definitely fun to meet, but make sure you are prepared to wait. I took a ride on the Walt Disney Railroad, used my last FP+ at Space Mountain and said Ta Ta for now as I headed back to catch the Magical Express.

It was a short trip, but filled with lots of fun and new information. I’ll be posting both my Halloween Party Experience and my “Character Challenge” next week!

Solo Weekend Research Trip!

Hello there!

I am leaving (very) early for Disney World tomorrow morning! This was a pretty impromptu trip and the main reason behind it is research. I’ve had quite a few people ask me about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and I always have to direct them to other sources because I have never been. Well, that changes tomorrow! I decided the best way to answer people’s questions is to experience it myself and that’s what I’ll be doing this weekend. Besides the party, I’ll be spending all weekend in all four parks. Here are the new experiences I have to look forward to:

1.       Solo travel- I’ve always gone to Disney with at least one other person and up to 10 other people, so being by myself will be an adjustment, but I’m looking forward to it.

2.       Staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort – super excited because I have heard only wonderful things about this resort.

3.        Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party- SO. EXCITED.

4.       Food & Wine Festival in Epcot- More so just the food as I am not a wine fan. :P

5.       No Table Service meals- Seeing as I am going to be by myself, I will be doing all counter services meals. This is definitely a first for me as I love character meals!

6.       I’m going to do a “Character Challenge” on Sunday morning in the Magic Kingdom. It’s seeing how many characters you can see in a short amount of time. I’ll make sure to post all about it when I get back!

I’ll make sure to have multiple posts ready when I come back!

If you want to plan a Disney Destination Vacation, send me an email at Shannon.ewing@keytotheworldtravel.com and we can start planning your pixie perfect trip!

Thanks for following along and have a magical day!
